The meeting that took place on 9th June 2016 was entitled: “Cultural differences in business: How to understand the Australian communication code in business”.
This time Polish Australian Business Forum (PABF) met at the “Me Artspace” Gallery – the creative home of modernist-meets-freeform Polish artist, Ella Mucha. Joining us as our keynote speaker was Leonie Tillman, who presented a talk on “Cultural differences in business: How to understand the Australian communication code in business”.
We began our evening with an opening by the Sydney AFLB team coordinators Anna Wójt and Chris Lasek. Chris and Anna presented acknowledgements from founders Justyna Orłowska and Michał Zębala thanking those without whom the AFLB would not exist (read the founders’ letter here).
Following on, the honoured Counsul General Dorota Preda presented the history of the AFLB. A history which started with the co-organization of the first event at the headquarters of Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Sydney in June 2015.
Our venue host, Ella Mucha, then graciously shared her inspiration for her latest acclaimed exhibition, “Whispers and Abstraction”. Being able to be amongst the work of such a talented Polish ex-patriot and share in her creative process was an interpersonal experience that none of us will forget any time soon.
The conversation continued with Leonie Tillman sharing her expertise on cultural differences in business. Having had 18 years experience in cross cultural business, it was an honour for us all to have Leonie’s insights shared with us as our featured guest. Leonie’s fascinating presentation lead way to vigorous discussion amongst our members, facilitated by Magdalena Dejneka from SBS Radio.
Finally, our evening concluded with a wonderful networking session, in which our members and guests were able to discuss business topics over a glass of wine.
